*crunch* - Equiraptor's Journal
I was in a collision tonight. My car was crunched pretty thoroughly. I'm ok, but I'm a bit concerned about neck injuries. My neck feels funny - it doesn't hurt, but it does feel... something. Of course, at this point, that could be purely psychological. I'll see how I feel after I sleep some.

I was heading northbound on Shepherd. I was braking to turn left onto Colquitt. This intersection. I didn't slam on my brakes. It's not like my brake lights would have been hard to see. The person who hit me drove off - hit and run. Another person on the street managed to get some identifying information (I don't want to share details online) about the other vehicle.

The car is pretty thoroughly mangled. It looks, to my amateur eye, like the frame is bent down at the back. But... what do I know. I hope there's no, "Well, we can fix it, but it'll never be right again," type damage.

More when I'm feeling more coherent (and have more info).

It's not enough to nail 'em without a good bit of legwork, unfortunately. Hopefully, either the police will do the legwork, or I'll be able to. I dunno.

I hope you can track them down so the book can be thrown at them, 'cause that's bullshit. :(

i was right around there monday night, going to saffron (shepherd and lexington) and it was crazy. i made the block a few times to avoid traffic mishaps.
i'm so sorry :( glad you are (mostly) okay.

People are so selfish. If they'd just pull back a little and think a little further ahead, a lot of collisions would be avoided.

It was probably some idiot on a cell phone, trying to text and drive.

Did you try to chase them down, which is how you wound up at the Bookstop?

Yup. Exactly. I wish the car had been drivable. Do you go to jail for a hit-and-run?

Re: ouch

*sigh* Frankly, I need to get rid of the thing, once I'm in the right position to do so. The engine is questionable, it's had a not-insignificant impact on the left rear wheel, and now the back's been crumpled. But this isn't the right time to do it, so I hope it's not totaled.

i found that when i'd have an accident (car, falling off my bike, tripping over a curb) the injuries don't actually fully manifest until the next day. definitely give yourself a rest and expect it to hurt 8 to 10 hours later like whoa. :(

It's been, I think, something like 20 hours now. My neck's definitely not 100% fine, but I've had no pain. Just that tired/strained muscle feeling. If it doesn't get worse, it'll be fine. If I start to feel pain, I'm running off to doctors and chiropractors.

Make sure that once you get the other insurance figured out, that you get funds to get checked out by a doctor for your neck. I heard that you never should take a settlement because then you're waiving your rights to go back in a year if it's more serious than you initially thought. They'll try to offer you a flat number for medical care, don't take it.

Any way, that's what I heard, and probably you already know all this. But you can't be too careful.

Hope you feel better, and hope the car feels better too!
