Poor old Silvercharm
Well, the Mac Pro arrived some time ago, and my then-desktop, Silvercharm, was shut down and moved to the side. Finally, I have plugged the poor thing back in and asked it to boot. I'm leaving it to its default Gentoo and am hoping to just run some stress, make sure the machine's still okay. So long as it can run non-graphics-intensive things without problem, it will become the next RivaRidge. Silvercharm booted without problems and is waiting for my attention.

There are two cables currently plugged into Silvercharm - power and keyboard. It doesn't even have a monitor attached. Due to crowding in the server room, it's found its temporary home in the TV room. Thankfully Nugget is out of town for a bit and won't have to deal with the horrid noise. ;)

May Silvercharm never lose her charm. She served you well over the years. Well, maybe not the last two. I hope the machine serves you well during its golden years.

How much RAM have you got in the new Mac Pro? and which Video card did you get?

1GB RAM, for now. This is temporary until I decide how much I'm willing to spend (and, hopefully, prices on RAM will come down a bit). I'd really like 2 1GB DIMMs to push it up to 3GB, but I'm not sure I want to pay $500 for that.

It has the X1900, which is why it only arrived about two week ago, instead of closer to 6 weeks ago.

This poor thing is really thrashing right now. Switching back and forth between Safari and WoW has it constantly digging into swap, and I'm copying those files from my old desktop, making the drive extremely slow. NEED MORE RAM!
