I hate Windows or Time for a new Monitor

Or maybe both.

s**t happened. I was running Linux, happy as could be, but wanting to play NFS: PU (for those who don't know, that's Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed - See past posts for more information). So, I rebooted into Windows. It yells at me about updates. So, like a good little Windows user, I install said updates and reboot. Everything comes up, and I start playing.

After my first race, the screen is gone. I alt-tab out, and things reappear, alt-tab back in, and things are gone. I figure the game messed up - it was released in 2000 (or maybe before...) and was never intended to deal with XP - so I kill the game and restart it. Same issue - I can't see the screen. Ok... So the game is having bad problems, since everything else is running fine in Windows. I try running it in compatibility mode, which dies with an error, and then try reinstalling. Still, it doesn't work. Ok, fine. I'll update my graphics driver. I uninstall the driver and do the requested reboot. Ummmm... all I'm getting is that blank screen.... I'm missing the first of my two BIOS pages and my Grub page as well. I try booting Linux, and I can't see most of the boot messages.

I take the tower into the other room, and plug it into a different monitor. The BIOS pages are now fine, Linux works great, and Windows will boot. However, Windows will not let me install the new Radeon driver, nor will it go back to the old one. *grumble* I pull the tower back into the "normal" area, and reconnect everything. Back with the original monitor, that one (or two) resolutions isn't showing. I give the computer time to boot, login, and start X (without being able to see what I'm doing). X starts fine.

My computer hates me. The monitor isn't displaying everything properly anymore and Windows won't let me install graphics drivers. Well, at least something is working.

OSsnack for Gentoo Linux for still working.
