Today was the UT A&M football game. UT won. Wow.

My cousin and I went to Steak n Shake today. Very good. Yum.

And then, for the crowing glory, my uncle bought a new computer. P4 2.6Ghz, 512M RAM (DDR) 80G hard drive, 128M NVIDIA GForce FX 5200, running XP Home.

I've been playing some Spider-Man game for PS2 today. Regan was impressed with my abilities. :) I get to crawl on the ceiling a lot, which is cool.

I think I'll make some custom rules in the firewall at some point, and I still have to lock down IE a bit. I'm hoping to have them using Firebird more than IE, partially because I like Firebird, partially because it has fewer vulnerabilities, and partially just because. My aunt is very good at following instructions to the letter and asking the right questions to help her learn. I still have to hook up the printer and the speakers on both computers. I'm considering sharing the printer over the (internal) network. We'll have to see.

Current Mood: blah blah
Current Music: That mouse again

I was a WinXP newbie when I installed it, what.. a little over a month ago now? The first thing I did was open up IE and download Firebird and Thunderbird. Haven't looked back since. They're my default for web and email. IE still opens up and runs every now and then... I can't remember off the top of my head for what. When it does, I copy out the URL and paste it into Firebird because I can't stand IE at all.

I cast my vote for setting your uncle up with Firebird/Thunderbird and making them default, and explaining why you did so.

Firebird is already the default. My aunt and cousin both seem quite capable of using it. I'm probably a little more hands-off when it comes to my Uncle. I think he'd rather just figure things out for himself... But I may be judging him wrong. Email currently is all web-based, so Thunderbird is unneeded. I've also never used it, which would make it rather difficult for me to support over the phone. :)

Yay Firebird!

In fact, writing this comment in Firebird. I was using it for the fun tabs even before I found the kabillion plug-ins (extensions) available for it. Now I'm using a ton of those, and it's still stable as a rock.

Did I mention it works better with Dell's VPN firewall than native IE? It's true. Kinda sad really. Microsoft VPN.. Microsoft Proxy.. Mozilla browser.
